I always look forward to seeing photos of your pond and koi's they are just bueatiful. Your water is always so clear that the photos of your koi look like they are out of water :o)

I love all the pictures, but the one of the "Kiss" is awesome. That is the perfect name for that picture.

I love your pond / stream! I recall seeing it before when browsing the gardenweb forums. I had a 100-gal preformed pond at our last house--it sufficed for the 10 years we were there with our 3 old goldfish. Well, we just moved this summer (from IL to NC) and I now want to do a "real" pond when we get set up in our new house. Do you have any "instructional" pics or details posted somewhere about your creation (or anyone else--if you have some, please share)??? Or, is there a website or certain book that comes highly recommended?

We enjoyed our last little pond and waterfall--which was under a wisteria-covered pergola off our patio. I can't imagine how much more we'll enjoy a more natural setting (and bigger, etc.).

Tracy, we have a website, on our website I have a page titled "Pond Plans & Diagrams." We started out with just two filter tubs, (gravity fed system)and a bottom drain.
The following year we added another tub and a biological pond. All the water from the main pond travels through the three filter tubs then travels underground and goes through the biological pond, then exits the bio pond and again travels underground and re-enters the pond from under the small dock. The instructions are outlined on the afore mentioned
link.
It pretty much sums up our pond and filtration. Check it out.

Joann, how do you control your fish population? I had a population explosion last year -- an unplanned spawn in which far too many babies survived. I have given some away, but do you do anything to help prevent such a problem?

Nancy, We have 3 Orfes. Very few fry survive the Orfes.
They are super fast and tenacious. They do get big though.

We use to have five, but gave two away to a friend because they are as big as our koi.

There are two orfes on the left.

Thanks, Joann. I've heard of orfes but I didn't know they were beneficial in population control. I may have to look into getting one.
