I don't know what kind of waterfall biofilter you have so I don't know for sure. If the top of the biofilter is open like a skippy, they will be fine. Other wise they are just fuel for the biofilter. Sandy

yes they have clogged things up a few times now. i pulled the filters in my uv/biofilter and there were a lot of them in there swimming around. the biggest issue has been with all the algae they have disturbed/broken loose clogging up the prefilter on my pump. my 9 year old has enjoyed seeing them swimming around. we are looking forward to when the tads turn to toads.

Do you have fish in your pond? I have lots of tadpoles and they grow up and leave in one season unless they are bull frog tadpoles and they take 2 seasons to mature. You can look for them with a flashlight at night to see what kind of frog or toad poles you have or go to a website that has frog and toad mating calls for identification. Be sure to leave them a way to get out of the pond when they are mature-thru climbing out on plants or stacked rocks to climb out on. Most of my tadpoles are toads and are very tiny when they mature. About dime size. You have to watch where you step around the pond when they leave since they all seem to leave at the same time. I enjoy the tadpoles and watching them mature. I do try to catch and relocate the bull frogs that find their way into my pond because they eat my fish babies and the smaller fish.

As for answering your simple question - yes bullfrogs are native to your area, but you specifically stated that you BOUGHT the animal from a pet store. This fact ALONE supports my original statement - it is ILLEGAL to release pets into the wild. If you bought it, its a pet and its ILLEGAL to release it into your pond. I have a good number of friends and contacts in MI and your actions would fall under that category. Maybe I should give them a call for you? Bullfrogs have a huge range throughout the United States and Canada, and you have no idea where that animal you bought in the pet store came from - do you REALLY think a bullfrog from Florida will do well in Michigan (or vice versa)? Also, by it being in the pet store, you have no idea what other animals it was exposed to or what pathogens it might be carrying that it could pass on to native populations of bullfrogs (dendrobatidus chytridmiosis) or rana virus. Do you homework, have an open mind to listening to what others say even if it doesn't fit into your plans, and think about your actions before you take them. ~Mike Excellent! :)
