If the labels are correct, you'll have a nice range of color. I don't know how the Comte will do in your heat but it is capable of repeating. Both he and Genl Jack might be happy with late-day shade if available. Our bush of Mme. Pierre Oger is really struggling with the heat here and is about to be replaced with another Bourbon, Souvenir de St. Anne's or Mystic Beauty. When I have OGR's that don't repeat well, I just stick a small polyantha or a couple Sweet Chariot in front so I have something to admire while they're resting!

I HAD Mme. Pierre Oger. The blooms were small but pretty and smelled nice but the Black Spot and the stinginess of the blooms earned her the shovel a couple of years ago. I hope yours turns out better than mine.

Barbara, good idea about sticking a poly or Sweet Chariot near these slow bloomers! I planted all 3 this afternoon, they are up against my horse barn, which will shade them from the brutal afternoon sun - they will get full sun all morning, then when it starts to wilt everything, they will be in shade. I think it will be an idea place for them. I am proud of myself for getting them in the ground so soon! Now maybe I should go back for Coquette des Blanches? Anyone grow that?? I haunt Walmart, waiting for their Great Value roses - they always have something really interesting that I cant get elsewhere. They are late - usually have them by Jan. 25......maybe tomorrow!

I do spray, so maybe Mme. Pierre will do well. I have heard really good things about Comte de Chambord - was waiting for him to show up at Home Depot!

My Mde. Pierre Oger stopped being so rust prone after about 4 yrs. It's about 8 yrs old now and gets better and better: better blooming, bigger, and less prone to disease, and this is the coastal cloudy belt of California.

Comte de Chambord repeats quite well. If you spray you may be able to avoid those very ugly huge blackspots on that rose. Furthermore, you can plant it in front of either of the bigger Bourbon or HP, Comte de Chambord isn't a tall monster at all. Mine is wider but its height is around 4'.

I forgot to add, when I had Mme. Pierre, she grew tall and thin. I liked the size and wish she had worked out for me.

The fragrance of CdC is to die for. When it's in bloom, all you have to do is walk near it to catch a whiff. And it's the purest pink I've seen. Mine tends to attract thrips, so watch out for that.

What other ogrs does HD have.

Hi Judith, I am here in East Texas too, and I can tell you only about my experiences with Comte de Chambord. He will need spraying for blackspot and some true coddling to make a go of it in our fungal forests!

I left mine to fend for himself, and he succumbed in his first year here. I did prepare the planting hole very well for him, and he got plenty of water, nourishment, and sun. But this one cannot stand up to our mega blackspot without chemical warfare backup.

Mine was a gift too, which made it sadder to lose it. Since I don't have enough time to garden, I have resolved to only have plants that are tough enough for this environment.

Stanc, my HD had Belle de Crecy! Also Sombreuil, Mary Rose, Coquette des Blanches, Edouard de Rothchild and hybrid teas/floribundas like Intrigue, Royal Highness, Apricot Nectar [which I would have bought except have one coming from Regans]. I didnt get Belle as she is a once bloomer, and I am under the impression they need a colder climate than I have to do well. These roses are in 1 or maybe its a 2 gallon peat pots, they look very healthy. Called "Magnificent Scents". There was a poster on the rack that listed many other of their roses - I really want an Alchymist - and am hoping they will get in more. Our stores are just now getting roses in. I have bought this brand of roses before, and have been pleased. Have an Orange Ruffles that is lovely. Would like to get another of those too.......Good luck getting your Belle! These roses were $11.99.

Allison, good to hear from you! I have planted these 3 in good soil - they will get mostly sun but will be shaded from the brutal afternoon sun by my horse barn, so hopefully will do well. That bed behind the barn seems to be a good one - all other roses thrive there, so hopefully these will too! They are planted in a row along with Barbara Worl/Grandmothers Hat, and Outta The Blue which is a huge shrub, and a Russelliana on the end.

I love my General Jacqueminot, but it completely defoliates here by the end of summer. Nonetheless, it is one of my favorites. It is just full of blooms in the early summer here, but it can't seem to take the worst heat of summer, so I don't know how it would do there. The deep red-blue color is spectacular with the whitish reverse, the bloom texture velvety. The blooms are very full and nodding, but they shatter easily.

Comte de Chambord has been so floriferous in my garden that it actually cannot seem to put on much growth. Never thought I'd want a rose to take it easy on the output that way! I really didn't want it particularly, but I saw it at HD for half price...The fragrance is every bit of what they say, and the blooms are much nicer than I ever expected. Don't know why I didn't expect much...I guess the pics online seem a bit off colorwise. It really is a perfect clear pink, and a very voluptuous bloom.

Coquette des Blanches is my baby. Do get it. It is a near perfect rose, IMO. It is not white at all here in zone 6, even in 90 degree plus heat. It is a delicate blush pink that intensifies in cooler weather. Blooms constantly, with hardly a pause. I think it was the last rose blooming in my garden in November. Very suitable for heat and drought. More in your other thread on this.

Will just have to go get Coquette.....it looked really large on one of the helpmefind photos - I didnt want a rose that would take over my bed in back of my horse barn, but there is room, and I will assume I can trim her back if she starts getting out of bounds. The blooms sound lovely.....neither Chamblees nor Antique Rose Emporium offers her, so this is a chance to add this one.....glad there were some positive comments! Now wonder if I should get the Sombreuil to go with her???

I am off to HD today - going to get both Coquette and Sombreuil. What about Edmund [or Edourd, cant remember] de Rothchild? They have him too.....There is another thread on Sombreuil on making it into a bush - may try that! Or do you all think it would be better as a climber? I can do either in this area.......thanks for the enabling, I need very little arm twisting!
