Marigolds with only 1 set of leaves developing flower buds?

Hello all,

I started seeds indoors exactly one month ago on March 28th. I am growing everything including a mix of flowers and vegetables. I have started seeds indoors before and have never had what is currently going on with my flat of marigolds. First, all the foliage turned a dark purple which I believe was from over and under watering but now the most interesting situation of all. These seedlings have only 1 set of true leaves and are very small, yet I noticed tonight that nearly half of the 72 plants are now developing flower buds. I know the proper thing to do is pinch these buds, but has anyone ever heard of this? In previous years it takes ages for my marigold seedlings to bloom and usually by then are nice stalking plants. Anyhow, any insight on whether anyone has seen this before and also recommendations on whether i should pinch out the blooms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Ryan
