New progress pics of pond! Come see!!!

I have been working very hard and now it is really starting to come together! Yesterday we added a bog with rocks in the bottom and a few plants. Oh, and of course a few fishies.......four Koi and three Goldfish. Would love to hear what you think so far?!?!?!?

That is so fabulous!! What a great job you have done. That will be so much fun to pondscape. I like the bog area a lot too.

Wow, that is just stunning. I am envious of the size too as I only have a small 300 gallon. I just love your pond and design. Fabulous job.

Thanks. I can't wait to get the stone around it. I am in Houston. Spring is full on here now. Very nice weather to start enjoying the pond. All my plants in my gardens are blooming now too. Houstons is horrific in the summer, but at least we get an early start to spring. Amanda

It is about 4.5 ft deep. I think I am going to put a "koi toilet1" in the center, and bring that up to an external pump. I am not sure what kind of pre-filter to use above the pond level to go in front of my pump. I should of planned it all before hand, but I had access to the trencher for free between jobs at work, so I decided to get the hole dug. Well if anyone has some ideas let me know. Thanks Derek

Thanks. Yea she and my son were pretty shocked. They had no idea we were building it. My son (he's 6) and his friends have spent a lot of time in the stream in the past couple of weeks! Yea horton we're going to do some more planting around the rocks, once the plants take hold should look pretty nice.

Thanks everyone! Oops, I think there was a misunderstanding. The knotty pine paneling stays and was actually primed yesterday, but the planks behind the cabinets will be covered. My contractor still has to build my mantle style hood and the rest will be tiled with backsplash. We haven't decided what we are doing around the window yet. It has to be covered because he cut holes in it to move the electric and the part of the kitchen that was once a porch doesn't have the same boards. Prill: The wallpaper is something isn't it? Some of it had waxpaper on the back. The rest had a fabric back. Ironcook: We were going to get red oak countertops from butcherblockco.com but we went over budget on the things you can't see (plumbing, electric, etc) so now we are probably getting them from Ikea. We haven't decided which wood. I'm pushing to stain it dark though. Newbieremodeler: I can post a layout, but it will be Monday. It's at school. My cabinets are Norcraft. I ordered them sight unseen (except on the website) from Designer Cabinets Online. Nancy_in_Michigan: The cabinets were a very good value. They were about 7,500. We already had the floor that we plan to put down. We are doing some work ourselves like tiling and painting. We bought the stove on sale, the dishwasher was a floor model so we really saved there. I got the pulls we plan to use on clearance at Lowes, and I bought the knobs, sink, and faucet we wanted on Ebay. We were lucky to find someone to do the work that we trust and is reasonable, so I think we will come in at or near budget. I'm generally pretty careful with money so after I found the cabinet source the rest wasn't that hard. It can be done, you just have to shop smart and find a contractor/installer that is reasonable and good at what he does. Spifeymom: Sorry to hear about your issue with Sears. I hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction quickly. I'm glad my temp kitchen helped you. It's pretty funny to see it sitting there in the living room. We have been eating, but definitely not the way we are used to eating. Yesterday we burned some sticks and the cabinet boxes and had a hotdog roast and smores. It was fun, but I don't want to do it again anytime soon. To all: I am so happy I went with the recommendations I got here to get as many drawers as possible. I got a lot of pressure from well meaning people off site to change it. I'm glad I stuck to my guns and got what I wanted. I think the hutch really does help to keep it from feeling like such a long run of cabinets, plus it gives me space to display some of my favorite things. Oh and someone, I didn't catch who, asked about the ceiling and if we were going to paint it. I thought about leaving it, but alas we can't because under the existing light fixtures the PO cut holes the size of the fixtures. It has to be patched so that we can do a different light. Because the wood is so old, we can match style but not color so it has to be painted. We decided to go with the color of the cabinets for the ceiling and a color that is gray-green for the walls called Thunderstorm. It's coming together. The only thing that hasn't been picked is backsplash. And I am having a hard time deciding what will fit the space best. I see now why people wait so late to choose their backsplash. Thanks to all and I will definitely keep the pictures coming!

Hi, Thank you Anne and newyorkrita for the fabulous compliments on my pond, and taking the time to comment. Today I added a few plants around the pond. I am hoping the algae will subside soon. You can only see a few inches down. Derek

Wow! Very beautiful. You just have to post pics after it is landscaped. How big is it? I just love the bog area and how it is connected to the pond. I am having a little pond envy here. Great job.

LOOKING AWESOME!!! WOW! I Love the water fall, even a still shot of it, you can almost hear the water running!!!lol! And love the bog garden, looks good! I'm so glad you shared your wip(work in progress) pics! It is really coming together now!!! Love the cement toad/frog!! Keep the pics coming...some real Eye Candy here!!! I haven't had an algae bloom yet, but my pond is only a month old. I have 9 small goldfish in mine. Shubunkins and sarasas and comets. They are coming for food now when I come to the pond...little fatties!lol! FUN FUN FUN!!! I'm already planning an inground pond for water lilies!!!lol! It's true what they say on this wonderful forum...ya just can't have just one pond!!!lol!

Looks great - nice work.

A friendly word of advice based on a lesson I learned myself: make sure the liner is tucked back up against the fieldstone covering before you cover the edge with the small river rock. Otherwise during a heavy rain the runoff will carry dirt/sediment over the liner edge and into the pond. You may have thought of this already. I never did and had to fix the edging of my pond/stream and vacuum all the muck out of my pond.

Thanks everyone for all the compliments, and advice. Jenny, the main pond is about 3000 gallons. Without the waterfall, and bog it is about 20'x10' and 4.5' deep. Thanks, Derek

Yeah, great big pond and bog. That's a lot of edge and yard to 'scape but I would have a ball. When I first did my pond I was all into the aquatic aspect of it and not so much into the landscaping around it. It took me about a year to really do anything more than hide the liner with rock and such.

Now I'm all into naturalizing the edge with the plantings. You've certainly have room for lots of different areas to break things up.

Wow -- That really is a great pond and bog, and from a fellow KS ponder too -- I love it! :-) I hope you keep updating with photos as everything progresses along.

Hi, Well I have finished the edge around the pond and have added a few more plants. I've added a Dwarf Lotus, and it has 2 blooms on it this morning. There is a picture of a few of the larger fish. The others are hiding in the deep. The smallest fish got sucked into the bottom drain a couple of weeks ago. It seems to be doing good. I had just cleaned out the leaf basket, and it may have been in the drain when I turned the pump back on. Fortunately I checked the basket a few minutes later and saw the fish in the basket. The tail was a little damaged. Will it grow back? The fish is a butterfly koi about 4 inches long. Thanks for looking. Derek
