Light pink old rose, what is it?

Please help me identify this old rose. I found it at a farm several years ago and propagated it from a cutting. It is has rather small blooms in a blush color. I believe it reblooms. The flowers come in clusters. The petals do not last long. It does have a nice fragrance. ItÃ¢ÂÂs canes stick up all over the place, some are stiff, some are weak. It has shiny green leaves. Height: I keep it pruned, but in this picture it is 3-4 feet. When I found it at a farm, it was growing in a bush and very tall single cane, over 6 feet.

No winter die back.
Pruning: Yes I prune it because it is near the house and gets to big. Probably should be in another spot where it can spread out.

It is on the East side of the house and gets morning sun.

The thorns are not terribly big. How far down they go depends on the cane. The lower foot or so do not have thorns.

I do not think it suckers.

I think it looks like Van Fleet, and now that someone mentioned that name my mom remembers my grandmother saying that name. So that is a possibility. I will check the thorns on the rose. I guess they are medium size. The thorns are not large like on the Miss All-American Beauty.

Hi Melissa! As I have told you, the pictures (just click in the photo to view more pics, as Rosefolly said) was taken from a neighboring garden and the shoots were taken with the maximum zoom. Anyway, I will try to take more in these days and compile mucho more info to post here. Maybe I can ask for permission to get into the garden to get more information concerning its age, growing habit, scent, number of petals, thorns, etc.).I know that just with the pics it is a really difficult task at all!. Hi. I took this picture last week at Goodwood Museum and Gardens in Tallahassee, of a rose there called 'Pink Pet'. Looks kind of similar. You'd have to compare more details to make a positive ID, though, and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in. I've also added a link to 'Pink Pet' at HMF. I have a rose very similar to the La Ville de Bruxelles or Ispahan. It was planted in 1930 in memory of a family member and again on a cemetery in 1944. Spreads by underground roots. A little hard to transplant. Petals are very full over 40. Single color of pink but goes to white at the center of the petal and white on the back of the petal . Shape is open cupped. Petal shape is reflexed. The leaf surface is Matt and color is light to med-green. It flowers in W. PA. once mid-June into July. Slightly fragrant to fragrant. It flowers in clusters of 3 usually. (Florabunda ??). Size is 3 inches across. I have books upon books trying to figure it out. I'll have to wait until summer to post a picture, but wondered if by the description you can help. Thanks. That really does look like it! More like it than any other flower I have researched. Thanks for the tip. It has been described as "large flowered" and "to 5 feet" and "climbing". Mine do not fit that description, but they are in a poor location, where a tree has grown up above them. I'll see what happens when I move them. I look forward to more contributions . . . Thanks,

You are in Zone 6? It looks fairly tall- or am I seeing it wrong? 5 or 6 feet or so?
...so no winter die back? do you have to prune it?

I see foxglove growing beside it.... Is it in a shady or sunny spot?
It looks average thorny. How bout low down on the cane- how are the prickles?
.. does it sucker? (the bush gets bigger/wider every year from more side canes coming up in the soil).

It looks like a wichurana hybrid of some sort, which would probably make it a climber. Do you prune it to keep it in bounds?

Possibly New Dawn. Probably something from that lineage.

It looks like New Dawn to me too. Susan, if you go to "helpmefind.com/rose";, you can search for New Dawn and there are tons of photos of it there, and you can see if it looks like your rose. New Dawn is a climber which would be hardy enough for zone 5, and it was introduced in 1930, so it might be a candidate.

You say the thorns are not terribly big?
My 2 New Dawns have monster thorns from hell!

The trunk looks like some medieval weapon!

Photo of the blooms on one of my New Dawn roses..

This one got so big and heavy that it totally collapsed its arch.
I cut it back last year. Am going to erect a sturdier arch for it...made of steel pipes and heavy wire.

I was thinking a young New Dawn, yeah. I have one started and an old monster one, and her thorns and canes are much different when she's a bit older! As a young thing she almost seems friendly :D

I looooove New Dawn, btw. I hate her horrible thorns, but she's just so beautiful and useful in the shade.

That isn't New Dawn. What you're saying about the lack of thorns takes it off the list of possibilities. You need full body armor to prune it. It doesn't look like my New Dawn, either. I think Dr. Van Fleet is a much better candidate. It's a climber, too.

New Dawn's other name is Everblooming Dr. W Van Fleet,

I believe. ... and it's a sport of Dr Van Fleet.
the difference is that Dr. Van fleet does not repeat.

'New Dawn' and 'Dr. W. van Fleet' are identical, since the former is a remontant sport of the latter; there are no visual differences between the two. The only clue as to their identities is that 'New Dawn' reblooms but 'Dr. W. van Fleet' does not.
