looks like nutsedge, but isn't, N. Florida

This grasslike plant is growing on the side of a ditch in North Florida in August.

From a distance (driving by in a car), it looks like goldenrod. That is one reason it caught my eye, since it is early for goldenrod. Up close, it doesn't resemble goldenrod at all.

It looks a little like nutsedge, but is much bigger.

Can anyone identify this?

Thanks!
