rachel77- I also have seen these at the big "W". The photo of the 'Tooth' looks very close to the photo they have on the package for 'Blue Tooth' as I remember. I haven't purchased any yet, but I am debating. All of the others they have I could look up with the exception of 'Romantic Rose'. I couldn't find that one. The others they had were Jordan, Pink Charm, Arctic Snow, Stella de Oro, Final Touch, and Pardon Me. 3 nice size roots with lots of shoots or fans (I'm a beginnner) for $5.00 seems like a pretty good place to start for me! If they turn out to be something different, surprises (when not expensive) are always fun too! -Frank

Oakley, I have Black and Blue Salvia that I bought at Lowe's in Stillwater several years ago. I now have it in several places around the garden. It dies back in winter, but comes back like a trooper every spring. Grows to about 3 ft and has the most beautiful blue flowers and almost black stems with yellow-green leaves that almost glow. It is a great background flowering plant, and because it is a Salvia (Sage), it tends to ward off a lot of nasty insects, but hummingbirds just love it! Grows in full sun. It does spread a bit, but is easy to dig and divide about every three years, so you can spread them around to other locations, give some away or trade for other plants at plant swaps. Well, I'll have a lot of seeds at the end of the season, so I could be a "seed source" for you! They would be easy to mail. I don't know how often you'd find this at Pike's or HD, but the smaller nurseries might have it. On the web, it is often found listed by stores that sell aquatic and aquarium supplies. But it grows fine in a garden or a bog.

Yes, indeed! It IS purple prairie paintbrush! I was born here and have spent all my life here and just haven't even seen/noticed this wildflower. Glad it's native. This particular patch has a really pink color, but the description says the color varies. Thank you so much for solving a mystery. And welcome to Texas! :-)
