'Alba Maxima' and 'Blanche de Belgique'

This is a bit embarrassing. I've had 'Blanche de Belgique' in my garden for years, propagated from a plant bought from Peter Beales around 2001. 'Alba Maxima' came from a plant on our property, not from a nursery. I studied this rose, looked at various references, and decided my mystery rose was AM. (I've also seen the same rose growing in town, and an Italian friend has it as a passalong plant and identified as AM, so I think AM is in circulation in Italy). The problem is that I'm beginning to wonder whether BdB is correct, because I don't see any difference between it and AM. Perhaps I should be wondering about the identity of my 'Alba Maxima', since I identified it myself. I'll have to wait until May-June to see the blooms, but hips and growth in general look the same. Can anyone tell me how to tell these two varieties apart? Thanks!

Melissa
