I love tan roses and I think I have them all, pretty much. Here are the favorites. Best tan roses: 1. Spiced Coffee (I got a nice one from Hortico this year, believe it or not. This rose, like most brown roses, does better grafted, not own root) 2. Honey Dijon 3. Stephen Rulo (Wisconsin Roses carries it) 4. Butterscotch (aka Jactan), the climber (available at Burlington Roses) 5. Pam's Choice (Rogue Valley Roses) 6. Irish Creme (Certified Roses - available at big box stores like Lowes, but only during bareroot season). and if you like mini's, then Smoke Signals (also from Burlington Roses) Julia's Rose is okay, but I haven't found a source to obtain it grafted. I think it would be a MUCH more vigorous rose if it was not growing on its own roots. As an own root plant, it is notoriously a weak plant, and my own root specimen bears that out. It's a rose that just wants to fade away, and I'm on my third or fourth plant because of that. Kathy

Julia is one of my favorite roses (I grow several), and your combination of Julia with the blue salvia is very effective. She's tough, I find, in heat and wind, and a good choice for your hedge lining a road. My front yard Julias are combined with purple (and other colors), which is another good color mix. For me, Julia has the toughest spring flush in our demanding weather (zone 7 SW Idaho desert) of sudden heat and lots of wind, and she's the last rose standing when the weather turns cold. In between, she blooms constantly. Your choice was a good one. Diane

I recall `Christian Bedard saying Julia Child is THE ideal rose that he aims for in his hybridizing work .I agree this rose has so many vitues: Heavy flowering, great repeat, tidy plant, good fragrance, I think its greatest attribute is that the whole plant looks good…dense rounded shape, flowers all over. I personally prefer more a HT type rose than a floribunda, but no doubt Julia Child is a top notch variety, and yes the ideal floribunda. A few decades ago yellow roses were largely considered the weakest color , if you grew an older yellow like Bucaneer or Eclipse you’d know it was no match for the best pink and red roses. It’s great how far yellow roses have come and that this one can easily contend for best in class.
