pond edge plantings

We've a pond of approx. 60' X 150'. Mixture of sand and clay banks. Typical high water in spring is approx. 2.5 higher than summer. High water in the spring lasts about 3-4 weeks until the ground water level drops to it's summer level. When it drops, it exposes approx. 3-4 feet of bank with a gradual slope. Kinda ugly looking. I'm thinking of planting sedges or rushes along that band of bank. Bad idea? Good idea? Any suggestions? I need something that can tolerate being under that high water level for the 1st 3-4 weeks of the year. Appreciate any and all suggestions
