Name That Plant!

Name that animal scat

I posted in the wildlife forum, too, but wanted to post here since it's busier. Can you ID this scat as deer or rabbit? There is also an image of a half eaten soloman's seal plant that they have decimated throughout my gardens. Thanks for your help.

I know this was from a long time ago.... It IS caterpillar scat that has rehydrated from the water in the bowl. cater pillars "launch" it either 4 or 40 times their body length. I can't remember which. This is thought to be done to keep predators like wasps from finding their nest and larvae. I had one bounce off my head and land on the patio table. I thought it was a squirrel pellet till I noticed the lobed, extruded look to it and searched till I found what it was. Probably will not harm the animals.... It's plant matter.

Hard to know. It doesn't look like what my cats produce, but they eat cat food. It could be fox or coyote. Where do you live? Is there enough wild area around to support wildlife such as fox, etc? Martha

I guess you mean the sunflower hearts? I use them instead of regular sunflower that way I don't have hulls everywhere. I think I've figured out who's scat it was I also found some around the dog food bowl (outside) there were no tracks other than the dog and birds. I know the bluejays often eat the dog food, so I think it's bluejay poop. :)

Unless the trailer had an open door, I doubt it's a bear. Raccoon would be my guess.

Hi Joe. Thanks for making me look up a word so early in the day. LOL. Deer scat it is! I have lived here for seven years, and this is the first time deer have invaded my gardens. Now I have to review all the many many old posts on what to do about it. Thanks for your help everyone.

Yep, deer poop. I got a recipe for a mix that works great at keeping deer and everything else away from my plants. Take a few crushed garlic cloves, 1/4 cup veg. oil, 3 eggs and mix them in a gallon jug of water. Let it sit in the sun for a few days to rot then strain it into a sprayer. It needs to be reapplied about every 10 days. It stinks to high heaven and you can smell it for a few hours after spraying the plants but it's the only thing that's worked for me so far.

Either deer, or maybe one of your neighbors doesn't like you and eats a lot of fiber... :)
