Got mine yesterday. And the Austin roses are conspicuous for their absence. As in years past the roses are all perfect with no disease issues and have long stems for cutting.

Got mine today. I already bought one of those umbrella trellises from them a few days ago. I'm going to pot up a mini in a half barrel, and use the trellis for it to climb on. I'm going to plant Twister mini rose in there.

I think I've had a couple of them come. Got one yesterday that has the new Disney Princess Rose Collection. Yellow BEAUTY WITHIN floribunda for Belle, pink & coral LOVE'S KISS HT for Sleeping Beauty, and the red with white reverse FAIREST ONE HT for Snow White. They look interesting. I wonder if they'll be a one-time offer like so many of their other roses.

They did have Cinco de Mayo before, but they don't own the patent for it so they owe royalties on selling the plants. I'd be if you researched it, you'd discover the roses they have in this catalog are all either unpatented, out of patent or J&P either owns the patent or already owns distribution rights to them. Why offer a rose you have to pay someone else for when you've had a huge R&D department, which is very expensive to operate, and can sell things you already own?

I thought the "Disney Princess Rose" collection was kind of a hokey marketing device. Unless they are trying to get little girls into gardening??? Seemed like odd demographics there.

One of the roses looked nice, but didn't sound like it had much fragrance.

Hoovb, the Disney Princess Rose collection caught my eye at first, since I am a big fan of the Disney Animated Movies. I was raised on all that and still love them. I am woman now of course, who loves roses and Disney, but I can't bring myself to order them because I like old-garden roses and DA's that look like them. These modern HT types are not my style.

Along with the "missing" Cinco De Mayo, this catalog is most notable for the other things that are also missing. No mini's or cold zone roses, like Rugosas and some Explorer roses they used to market, and also very few OGR's -- only Zéphirine Drouhin and Mermaid.

To the best of my recollection J&P has never been very focused on OGR's. For a long time they were the American epitome of the breeder/promoter of the latest of the modern roses.

I received mine yesterday. I didn't realize JP changed hands. In the past whenever I had a problem they did very well to correct it. I hope this does not change. I wish is was SPRING already, so many beautiful Roses!

My friend got her catalog last week. For the first time ever, I'm ordered some J&P online. I had to order Monkey Business for my sister, she collects monkeys :D

I also ordered the "test roses", as I love to test things.

Those who have experience with their roses, would you be kind enough to give some info about the disease resistance of these roses in humid areas on the east coast?
I am interested only in their own root roses.
I know that J&P says that all are superbly disease resistant but I want some reality check from those who grew /grow these roses in the eastern part of the country, let's say, zone 6,7 and 8, maybe 9 (Florida). To sum it up: I am interested in blackspot resistance, and botrytis if the rose is white, yellow or pink.

My experience is that more J&P roses in my garden blackspot than roses hybridized from the other companies. Tom Curruth from Weeks Roses seems determined bring only disease resistant roses to the market. J&P seem to care more about color when they introduce new roses than disease resistance. Just my opinion.

All roses, and I mean "ALL" roses on the east coast (from FL north to NY) get blackspot. If you have humidity than you will have BS. No getting around it. You cannot go by what the catalogs say about disease resistance. If any rose breeder thinks they can breed a rose without disease they are only fooling themselves, there is no such rose. The east coast would be the place to test them though because if it can make it here without BS than it can make it anywhere.

ramblimrosez-I live in New England (east coast) & with a good spray program you can keep most roses blackspot free. I have never had a problem with Julia Child, Hot Cocoa, Pretty Lady, Mother of Pearl, & lots of others I could name. I have had a BS problem with lots of J&P roses, Fragrant Lavender Simplicity, Perfume Perfection, Change of Heart, to name a few. These get BS even with a weekly spraying of the mosr potent chemicals.

I believe J and P has been sold twice. I think the jury is still out about the new ownership. If you notice J and P has a huge marketing program. Those catalogues cost money. Still, they do bring new roses lovers into the garden. They have to come up with something new for people to buy to keep the rose train rolling. The pictures are touched up..I think a more educated buyer will look at other sources. Rogue Valley Roses, Pickering roses, Palantine roses, Roses Unlimited, Vintage Gardens.

Ramblingroses, there was a time when I also thought to be true what you say now. However, by now I do have quite a few roses that are bs resistant or bs free and I do not spray them at all.
Some noisettes are clean (Crepuscule, Marechal Niel, Jaune Desprez),also some teas (Devoniensis), a few polyanthas I have (Perle D'Or, Clotilde Soupert, Arhethusa). Of the climbers New Dawn, Papi Delbard, Ilse Krohn Superior, Laguna,the hybrid musk Prosperity, Compassion, Colette are bs free, though Colette was not clean for Olga in MD. Also clean are a few Buck roses (Folksinger, Earth Song, Serendipity), the new Kordes ADR roses I tried. I probably have more bs resistant roses but these are the ones I can recall without checking.
In some cases I have serious issues with botrytis but not with blackspot on the above-mentioned list.

Just wanted to add to the "Disney Roses" discussion. When I got this year's J&P catalog and saw the Disney roses I thought "is this a cheesy marketing attempt to sell some less desirable roses with a cute name???". But I went to a presentation by J&P this week where Keith Zary (the hybridizer) spoke about the new Disney roses. In this case Disney came to J&P to "pick roses". Dr. Zary says thats that Love's Kiss and Fairest One are really top notch roses. With Love's kiss being exhibition quality. Dr. Zary doesn't gush about the roses so if he says they are excellent he means it. Interestingly he didn't say much about Beauty Within (the Beauty&beast rose).

I think I may now order a couple since my daughters love Disney Princess stuff..
