Strange flowering plant with striped fat buds

Hello. We're located in the southern part of Indiana.

There's been a plant in a part of our garden that receives a good amount of sun. It always appears in mid to late summer in the same area, and, since we don't remember planting it, we think it's a wild plant that moved in. I haven't seen it in any of the other areas of our property, but this plant bed is right next to the road so there's a possibly of it getting spread via car tires.

It grows to about a little over one foot, and I haven't gotten a good photo of the flowers; I think they may bloom in the evening or morning hours like bindweed or morning glory. I've been trying to identify the plant myself, but I seem to come up empty each time. Maybe you guys can tell me? I'd like to know if it's an invasive species, just to make sure.
