I found one of these volunteering in the hedge, dug it, nurtured it in a pot, planted it in the yard and forgot it. It's now a 4-ft stick with a floret of leaves. But it blooms pretty much non-stop and I'm told from others here on GW that it will decide to branch pretty soon and become a pretty little tree. They're really hardy - no pests, no water needs _ and the butterflies love the blooms.

Upon looking at enlarged pic, yes, it is Crassula streyi. :)

To answer your question about the Virginia creeper.....the sap contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause reactions in sensitive people. It's advised, at the very least, that one should avoid touching their eyes and face after handling the vine. The berries are poisonous to humans, but birds and other animals use it as a food source.
