One more ID please [photo]

I could not resist buying another Dendrobium and have no clue what type of culture it is and how to take care of it.

It grows inside a small, soft log. I took the whole plant out of the plastic pot because it felt too soggy.

And I have another question about lighting. I have 1 bulb [20W] fluroscent. Is it enough or do I need to add more and how far I should hang them from the orchid foliage?

That is another hard-cane dendrobium. The media it is in looks too wet and appears broken down. Grow this plant dry. Let it completely dry out before watering. I do not fertilize except when it is making new green growth (which yours is not doing.)
These are high light plants and need strong light. I grow mine outdoors in summer in almost full sun all day.

You need more than 1 20W bulb. Put it in your sunniest window, and don't water again until dry. I don't fuss with these plants over winter. After flowering, I cut back on water and let it sit until early spring when it will start growing again. After flowering, it probably will not show any signs of growth until Spring. Enjoy the flowers and let the mix dry out.

It's a pretty bloom. I'm with Jane completely on culture. ID for it will be very difficult to find. When I purchase a NOID, I do it becasue I love the blooms and content myself that it will not have a 'real' name.

I don't know many of them - although some things are easy. There is a Moss/Fungi forum, it is kind of slow - but it's worth a shot. You have to put the photo in the gallery and then I'd put a message on the discussion board for it to let people know to go look in the gallery. Hi Greenlarry, Probability and location play a very large part in it - Norway Spruce is commonly grown, whereas similar related species that can't easily be distinguished as seedlings, aren't. I don't think any of us would have been so confident if the seedling had been found growing in botanic garden, or a garden in e.g. Japan, or China. Resin

I was just looking at the photos I posted and the darker colored rose reminds me of Alexander MacKenzie. It has really long canes and when I purchased it from holes it was the only rose I picked that had wire hoops around it. I know that Alex can grow quite large and be a little wild if left to his own devices. Just a little food for thought...

It's growing in a coconut husk. They retain water like a sponge. It needs to dry out almost completely before you water again.

Please don't stop the great advise there! I have a hard cane mutt hybrid. It flowered in June, started new growth in September.

1. Should I have decreased water sooner than Labor Day?
2. Could the new growth be caused from a bloom for market scenario?
3. I ignore the new growth. Is that what other Dendrobium growers do?
4. Dens want brighter + less humid + cooler temperatures during winter resting? My brightest window is hot.

Meg, NO, NO, & NO! Your new growths are your flowers. You nurture that growth to maturity. Lots of light now and continue lightly fertilizing. Do not let it rest (its not resting) and water it until 'almost' dry. Keep it warm. New growths on a dendrobium need strong light to finish.

I don't know what zone you are in, but winter is a tricky time to finish a growth on a den. It needs so much light to finish, you should supplement light.

These growths will produce your Spring flowers. Some dens make their growths over summer and bloom in Nov. Dec. Others mature their growths over winter and bloom Spring and Summer.
