I feel for you.. They just started coming out in #s here, Wheather you spray is up to you, there is going to be a load of poeple on here who will tell you not to, but alot of those same people do not see the #s of jbs others do or do not have jbs at all. They just cant imagine the destructive force of a few thousand beetles flying around. At my hieght here they will eat everything, even cosmos, daylily buds , ?I do not know of many plants they wont chomp on. I hate them. Ive sprayed some years and not sprayed others. I really dont like to spray, but its not feasable to kill them in #s to protect the plants otherwise. I know there is another thread that said something about cedar oil, I might try that next year, but I already imagine it wont work, someone else suggested spraying pottosiam silicate into the soil for plants to absorb, I really dont know the effectivness of that either. Nor the cost, nor the percantage of supposed jb destruction. I do know if you spray a contact poision on jbs they die, If I do spray , I try to spot kill them, then I spray the plants down with water to try to avoid killing anything else. Milky Spore has been proven ineffective with temps down to -10 F, plus me spraying milky spore on a acre of land surronded by 300 acres of wooded lots, seems pathetically stupid. Such is life in Norther Eastern US... JB centralville, perfect climates for them to breed , reproduce and add to thier #s next year. Commercial farmers here either spray whole crops of corn and beans, or they dont grow them anymore. Silverkelt

Dig up the tubers being careful not to bruise them. Planting depth should be around 3 inches deep. Plant in a well draining soil with organic matter added and also a portion of slow release fert. Waterlogged soil is the number one enemy of most Aroids. Cala lillies from what I understand can handle full sun quite well. I add course sand or perlite to my soil or sometimes both. These tubers go dormant for part of the year and should be kept a little drier during that time. I hope this helps a little. John

Memo, They are pretty easy to grow. They like more water than I usually give them, but they have such beautiful blooms! Renee: It is a nice bush that has these lovely clusters of blooms...and the roses are 3 to 5 inches across...and a wonderful fragrance. kay

Thanks Nancy! Good to know even in Zone "8ish" they're hardy - that means they should definitely be hardy here in South Central Texas. These Bossyvossy, I pulled it out of the pot and realized it was very rootbound. Not only are some roots showing above the soil, but they're tightly intertwined all over the bottom. Luckily the roots are all white and healthy looking. I felt the bottom of the stems underneath the soil and they feel firm even though they look a little discolored and brownish as you can see in the original post's pics. So I guess it's time to repot it? I didn't want to undertake repotting if they were all just going to die off in the winter. But since it seems it will be hardy year-round here (or at least they should be if I bring it inside during the colder part of winter), I guess repotting makes sense right now. Is the gritty mix (1:1:1 turface:grit:bark fines) too dry for a calla lily? Should I use the 5:1:1 mix instead?
