Native Florida orchid advice

User

I will start by saying I know nothing about orchids:) I do have one purple Vanda that blooms every year but that is my only orchid.

Cut a magnolia tree today as part of the prep for a new stone fruit home orchard and when it was on the ground I noticed it had 3 sections of native orchids growing on it. I have seen the orchids bloom before and rather like them. Luckily for the orchids the tree fell with them up so they were undamaged. I carefully cut the sections of the tree out where they were and now they sit..

Question is....are the orchids parasites of the tree, I mean I know in some way they are as they use the tree as a host and give nothing back but I guess what I am asking is do they take water and nourishment from the tree or do they just use rain water. Can I cut out the sections they are attached to and say wire it to a new tree....I know seems a lot of work for them but they are cute little plants.

Any advice appreciated.
