I think you're right! But I also didn't think either one should be blooming now/still - it's been a very strange year plant wise - also, these California poppies don't look anything like the packages of California poppies I've been buying as seeds....hmmm is there more than one kind of California poppy? the other more similiar to other poppy varieties in leaf structure, seedhead, and blooms?

Seeing the leaves would help as I think that would help give us a sense of scale as well. Though it would certainly be atypical flower heads, both Glechoma hederacea and Prunella vulgaris have similar flowers and can bloom throughout much of the growing season including now. I don't really think it is one of these but I throw them out there because things that bloom in October are a short list in the region -- I'm western NY State and probably have much the same list. here's a trick ... next time.. buy a plant with one single flower in bloom.. and covered with a hundred buds ... then you can spend the next few weeks watching it bloom ... never buy a plant i full bloom ... the show will be short .. it will rebloom.. but its going to take.. 4 to 6 weeks to rebud and bloom ... and there is nothing you can do to speed it up .... all it needs between now and them... if PROPER watering .... give it a good drink.. and then let it near dry before you do that again .... i suggest a tray under it.. in case it leaks ... i would bet a shiny penny.. the media is sponge like ... and holds a lot of water.. as such.. it does not need constant daily water ... the weight of the pot.. the loss of water.. will tell you when it is starting to dry ... ken
