Big hole in the yard, But I want pondless

Hi, I am wondering if any one has an idea to make my pond, a vanishing pond, until I am ready to try a full pond. While doing some major landscaping, I asked my contractor to make a 12 foot round 2 foot deep hole for a water feature in my yard. The hole bells out to 16 feet wide at the top and 12 foot at the bottom it is is 3 feet deep with about a fooot or more of soil around the edges. I have lots of rock. Now, it all looks way to big and way to deep. I have run out out of money for this landscape project and I can not buy the components for a full flege pond now. I have been lurking on this site for months so I think a vanishing pond would be neat and would solve my problems until the money is flowing again. But I don't know how to make a vanishing pond work with such a deep and large hole. Any suggestions, or pictures would be appreciated,

Maggie
