Don't throw dead Masdevallias away.

1/2 year ago I got some advice from an expert Masdie grower. Even if they look to be as dead as can be, keep watering the brown stumps and you may get a surprise. Masdies have the annoying trend of totally defoliating when they are unhappy leaving a brown bundle of stumps. At that point, in the past, I would throw them out. No more.

After receiving that advice I placed 4 of these apparently dead plants in the watering area and just ignored them. Today I did my yearly maintenance, re-potting in fresh moss, up-potting, dividing etc and noticed that 2 of the 'dead ones' were sprouting new leaves. Still a work in progress but goes along with the advice that person gave. Water them for at least 6 month before finally throwing them out. Some may spring back to life. He said that this is true for Masdies only.

It's a good thing they can't walk, imagine a 'Night of the Living Dead' scenario with Masdies trying to eat your brain.
