I am trying to eradicate this flower

Eventually this gets a spike of pink flowers I think, but I plan on pulling all of this up before it flowers. It spreads everywhere, can you id it? If not I may be able to track down some photos if the flowers from last year.

I'm talking about the plants in front, not the daffodil type plants in back.

Sorry to have chimed in so late. I agree with the forum. You have to keep on trying. This is how my first experience with rooting went. I had heard so much about the baggie method. Adding your favorite rooting mix to a baggie, dipping cutting into root hormone, and then placing cutting on heat mat to root. Never worked for me. I substituted the heat mat for a heating pad. I really think the whole heating pad idea was just bad for me. It never worked. In fact, once I tried Bill's method, I never had any luck. I actually added a whole raw egg to my mix and that really helped but I don't want to give you info on yet another way of rooting. Sometimes too much info can be detrimental. I really hope you do try rooting again. I had many rooting blunders until I became successfull. In fact, I gave up for many, MANY years at rooting cuttings, but once I gave it a try again, I rooted my cuttings. Good luck and keep us all posted!! Andrew

Passionflowers are so similar to Wisteria. Both of them are beautiful. But neither of them are really wanted in your yard unless you have a way to control their runners for sure. Now that you have the plant (and runners), you could just, as the previous comment stated, cut the runners down to the ground. But the roots are still there, waiting to take over your flower bed. While I hate to suggest it, the only real way to get rid of the runners is to kill the mother plant. I would recommend using Roundup (a lot of it) and hopefully letting the poison seep to the runners through the root system. If you want to keep the mother plant... Don't. Just don't. Unless you save some of it to grow a new one or buy more seeds, the way your first plant is planted won't work. You have to put the plant in a rather large pot in the ground to contain the root system. Now, I've only heard of this being done, so if you want to keep the passionflower, do your own research! I hope this helps! Don't let the passionflower take over the world!

at the right time of year... small stripped branches.. can smell of black cherry pop .. for a very short time ... i never tried to smell them in winter.. so its not winter.. lol ... though i see flowers in your pix.. so you arent really in what i call winter .... ken

Fun space. Interesting low stools with a picture leaning against wall and vintage riding boots. Textured, bold color and interesting lines for your choice of stools would be one of many options. A lucite table with artwork or sculpture. Stool with stacked books. Lucite table with stool underneath or riding boots. Lots of options. Not sure your office decor but if you keep door closed treat it as receiving area for guests. Simple and understated.

man you dont fool around when you get a hate on for something... butcher knife and all ... lol ... one of the best dollar store tools for the garden ...

you can put 100% round up or generic in a drip bottle.. and just let it drip down the stem ... and it will die.. and come out much easier.. once the roots shrink a bit ... IF!!! ... its the type of plant that has significant underground roots.. and you dont want to disturb the rest of the bed ...

the key is precise minimal application ...

and if thats out of the question.. all the power to ya...

Yes I think Saponaria officinalis is correct. Thank you all. Here is a photo from a few years ago showing the pink flowers at the front center of photo. (Maybe most of the green leaves in the center are from another kind of plant).

Thanks Ken, I do want to get rid of it but mostly I chose the title of my question because I wanted something more distinctive than "what is this?"

Yes - the pink flowers in the foreground are Phlox as Saltcedar states. This is not the same as the first plant you asked about.

I was thinking it - the original plant asked about- looked like Silene armeria.

And agree the one in the foreground in second picture is Phlox.

Silene and Saponaria are in the same family so there is some similarity but the terminal buds, stems, leaf shape and veination say Saponaria to me.

Ok, maybe they're not the same plants. I have left a few growing and will try to remember to post pics if they flower. Some of the pics I found online for Saponaria had leaves very similar to what I have in the first photo here.

If you pick a leaf from one of the plants and take it and hold it beside the other you will see the differences in shape, texture and veination. They are easily distinguished once you know them. Same with the flowers - quite different if you compare closely.

i was commenting on the butcher knife ... one of my favorite dollar store garden tools.. BEFORE kids came along ...

there is something about not only weeding.. but killing a weed ... lol .. divine retribution or some such .. lol ..

I dug so much of it up that only a few little sprigs were left, but I let them grow so I could show you the flowers and here they are. They were small and took a long time to grow and only flowered in early Sept. . Looks like the Saponaria. The phlox also flowered earlier this year. Time to pull up the rest of the Saponaria.
