OK...I'm bummed, now...

I would think that my orchids should be in bloom at this time of year, given my area, but most are throwing out new growth instead.

Fine by me...for now, 'cause new, healthy growth will, hopefully, lead to beautiful blooms come spring.

*finners crossed!

Anyway...a very dear friend gave me the orchid in the following photo, a little over a year ago when he moved away.

It bloomed once for him although he couldn't remember what the bloom looked like...and hadn't bloomed for me until 4 days ago.

Now, mind you...I inspect all my orchids twice a day when I water and/or feed them..OK..I FUSS over them!

...and no...I don't talk to them...(course not!) LOLAM

This one finally threw out a spike!

I've been watching it with great anticipation of discovering the color of the bloom, thus maybe figuring out an ID.

Well, this morning I look at it...measuring those silly millimeters of new growth...hehehe.

Lo!...and behold!

Something chewed off the tip of the spike and an inch or two below!

Rats!

No idea what did it...any thoughts?

I'm bummed!

Guess I'll hafta wait another year before the darn thang throws out a spike again.

*heavy sigh
