That depends on your pond. Most refuges are large enough for several fish at a time. Those are mostly overhangs in 12 to 20 inches of water. Sections of 4 to 6 inch flexible pipe works. It should be at least 18 inches long. Ceramic pipe works and cracked pieces are available at less cost. Large slabs of rock laid on top of cement block are good. Fish can hide in the most amazing places. You would never believe how many can crowd into a section of pipe. Large pots with a hole in them or placed on their side work. Plastic pots need a brick in them to make them stay in place. I don't recommend plastic crates. I have lost fish who get stuck and injured on sharp edges. They don't seem to realize they have grown too large or they forget in their panic or excitement. There are lots of different ways to make a hiding place. I'm sure other posters have much better suggestions. I'm not feeling too sharp today. Why don't you start a new thread on the subject?

Hi Have heard that the state is using some type of bacteria to combat WH since it's sooo invasive.. From what I gather it's spread by contact and is not airborne . Have noted a sharp decline in nearby canals where i got the original stock. Actually it's against the law to culture it in fllorida so i guess i'd better not complain?? lol Whatever the cause it's affected only WH . Have always found it the most effective plant for filtration and makes a great mulch for terrestrials lol. There are many alternatives BUT many of them are also "Noxious weeds" lol Think I'll do without the "floaters for awhile to see what happens . My lone tropical water llily has covered the entire surface anyway Thanks gary

They probably are reproducing but with 30 adult goldfish eating the eggs and fry, offspring does not have the chance to survive. I had that happen one summer when I left the previous year's babies in the pond. All the eggs and fry were consumed. If you had fewer fish maybe the fry would be able to survive. Anne

I am looking to make a fish pond where the rain water runs off the roof, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any aquatic plants that the fish will enjoy? I'm up in the north west portion of Georgia, if that narrows the list down any. Thanks for any help! :D
