The foliage of the first plant looks like Platycodon, aka Balloon Flower.

The other plant might be a seedling of Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Virginia Creeper. You can see a leaf with more leaflets in the top of your photo.

I'll look up the Balloon Flower. Is it wild and/or invasive? It appears to have a relatively large, proportionally, tuberous root from a small one I'd gotten with the roundup accidentally. It does appear to be sensitive to round up. The way the plants were spaced, it looked like it might have been intentionally planted.

For the second, I considered the possibility of creeper, but there are several three leaf sets and there is a lot of creeper around that area, but no where else did I see creeper with three leaves. I've been waiting to see if it would mature into a five-leaved plant, but the red stems and three leaves are in contrast to the rest of the creeper in the area.

I saw some pictures that showed the same plant and called it Boston ivy on pages about poison ivy lookalikes. Other photos showed a very different Boston ivy leaf but also said it was highly variable. In any event, I do not believe that it is poison ivy.

Balloon flower is a nice plant. If you break off a leaf, you will see white latex ooze out. I deadhead my plants and notice that.

I raised some parthenocissus tricuspidata from seed and the juvenile foliage is a look-alike for poison ivy. Then again, poison ivy is often present in Hedera helix plantings. How I would tell the difference between poison ivy and juvenile leaf Boston ivy is by how it's adhered to a wall or tree. The hairy aerial roots of poison ivy are almost distinctive to mature vines. Boston ivy does not have them, and adheres to walls by small discs.

Boston ivy and Virginia creeper are 2 different plants. Yours looks like VC (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). The name tells you it has 5 leaflets.
BI is Parthenocissus tricuspidata. The name tells you the leaf has 3 lobes, not separate leaflets. It looks vaguely like a giant English ivy leaf.

I can't help you with poison ivy id because we don't have it (and am I pleased about that!)

Well this thread was mainly for the balloon flower which is starting to bud now... The vine is not VC but BI. @ flora uk, you are actually mistaken. Calliope is correct: Boston Ivy has both a lobed as well as a separate leaflet appearance. I confirmed this myself after pulling it up. If you want, I could take a picture but since posting said pictures are such a PITA, I'd rather you take my word for it.

The leaf at the top right of the second to bottom photo is Virginia creeper, which doesn't, of course, mean that you don't have Boston ivy as well.

Yes, I agree... I decided to let the creeper and the english ivy fight it out. I've declared the english ivy the winner and now am removing the creeper. The boston ivy was a surprise... had I known about it earlier, I probably would have preferred that although the spot is rather shady so the fall foliage wouldn't have been spectacular in any event.

I would tend to let VC win out, of the three, as it is the only one that's native. English Ivy, in some places is quite invasive. It's potentially ecologically damaging in my area. Of course, each of us has our own aesthetic.

Well if you're in Philly, we are in the same area since I'm in Wilmington. I like the look of EI better than VC but I'm unaware of potential problems... Care to share?

I've found out that the wild(?) clematis is rather invasive too... I have what I believe to be either autumn lights or sweet autumn clematis (similar to http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_A_UzSS5Kjh0/SMat1oD-SwI/AAAAAAAAAY4/i8CqePQK0a8/s400/sweet+autumn+clematis+(7).JPG ) and it is slowly taking over my yard. Since it requires little maintenance and can be ground trained, I don't mind except that it's run over some of my azaeleas.

I've attached a link about the invasiveness of English Ivy. Yes, non-native Sweet autumn clematis, c. terniflora, is invasive in some areas, including ours.

I always thought that EI was benign. Then again, before reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, I thought that the Forest Service was as well... Anything with their logo on it makes my gorge rise:
