Name That Plant!

mystery blue flower

I love the colour of this flower and couldn't stop myself from buying it from our fruit and vegetable store. But there were no labels in any of the pots. I've searched as best I can on the internet and the closest I can find is Nigella. This is no doubt wrong. What is it please?

A seed strain of Delphinium chinensis.

They look like genuine English bluebells, Hyacinthus non-scripta ie not Spanish blue bells. However, leaves are fairly broad so maybe a hybrid between the two. If you do move them put them in dappled shade, not full sun. Imagine an English woodland environment in May.

They're short-lived perennials but do re-seed under good conditions.

Many thanks, once again, Joe.

By googling "delphinium chinensis", to find out about care and best location, I have discovered the following names:

* Delphinium chinensis 'Gentian Blue
* Chinese Delphinium, Larkspur (Consolida chinensis) 'Gentian Blue'
* Delphinium (Larkspur) chinensis: Gentian Blue
* Delphinium chinensis 'Blue Butterfly'
* Delphinium grandiflorum (sometimes called D. chinensis), or the Siberian larkspur

I had no idea that delphinium and larkspur were one and the same. And I'm a little sorry to learn that the flowers are poisonous but happy to know that they are attractive to bees and hummingbirds.

P.S. It took me a while to find the information about this on the plant database page here but at last I found it under "Delphinium grandiflorum 'Blue Butterfly'". At least, I'm pretty sure this is the same plant.
