I have mowed more this season than almost all of last year
Comments (3)I have two yards in South Texas and I can't believe it either. My unmowed yard has places that were struggling last year that are now over 30 inches tall. One spot is in full sun and the other is in half shade on the west side of the house. If I was mowing it would have to be every 5 days to keep up. Here is a pic from yesterday. The picture was taken early in the morning. You can see my dog's ears and the top of her tail in that picture. Her tail is 25 inches high. This is the part shade area facing west. My mowed yard gets it every weekend but I can't take a full cut on the mower width. I overlap the previous cut about half way....See MoreNewly seeded lawn: when should I do the first mowing?
Comments (1)In general you should not cut more than 1/3 of the height at a time. So the 3 inch grass can be cut to 2 inches. Go ahead and cut. The earlier you start cutting, the better for encouraging tillering. You can avoid the areas where the grass is shorter if you like. The main problem is turning the mower. If possible, keep going in a straight line until you're on a sidewalk or neighboring property and make your turn there. Your ground is very soft from all the watering and making a turn can disturb the soil. If you have to make the turn in the seeded area, just do it slowly and carefully, lifting the front wheels up (if you're using a push mower). On the day you cut, don't water until after you cut the grass, so the ground is as dry as possible. The new grass may flatten under the wheel tracks but it will straighten up soon....See MoreWhen do I mow
Comments (2)it depends on the type of grass you have and how quick it grows. use the "1/3rd Rule" donot mow more then 1/3rd of your leaf blade off at once. if you lawn is 3"high, never cut more then 1" Here is a link that might be useful: lawn care...See MoreMay be my last handful of blooms this season!! Dreading winter!!
Comments (11)Beautiful blooms Judy! Yeah I am dreading winter myself. The cold temps finally have arrived, and I'm already experiencing either a really bad cold or the flu. Can't stop sneezing and the nose is running constantly. Wasn't able to function well enough to get any outdoor work done. I hate it! And, now that evening is coming, the chills and fever are here. Auugghhhh! Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be better and can do some garden stuff. I was even too sick to go take pics. I still have quite a lot of blooms out there. But not for much longer!...See More- 13 years ago
