new to orchids

I got 2 orchids I gess MABY both with problems the first one was sick and underwatered and also came from a smoker house it was so underwatered that it got brown spots on the new leaf the second orchid is nice and finishing blooming but I see no baby leaflets coming.g out of it is that bad or will they eventually come out I'm not completely worried about the sick one it's growing a new leaf which means it's getting better the second one I'm stressing about because I know some about orchids just not to much I just let them stay moist and barely dry out then water them over the sink for 5 min and let excess.water drain I'm also giving them bright light is this ok helpÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡ÃÂ¡

What sort of orchids are they?
Where do you live in the USA?
Where are the orchids? inside your house? Outside in the yard? Near a window? In complete shade?
Tell the growers here more and you might get some help.

They are phalonopsis I think they are in a house by a window and a bright lamp I live in zone 6 in the usa

The ones on the left and right are phalaenopsis, also known as moth orchids. The one in the middle looks like some kind of miltassia shelob. It is a little difficult to tell without seeing the leaves. You should find some culture notes online for these plants for your general area. In general, the phalaenopsis are pretty forgiving and you can learn how to care for those through trial and error. They just need decent light (avoid direct sunlight, although I have at least one phalaenopsis that loves direct sunlight for 4-6 hours a day, so I can't tell you that that's an absolute rule, just probably not something to start with). The most important thing is not to overwater. If your phals are in sphagnum moss, wait until it is almost completely dry before watering again. The miltassia I'm not sure about--I have one that is doing quite well but I've only had it since mid-summer, so the jury is still out.

Most Phalaenopsis are sold as "Florists Flowers" and that is great for Orchid Growers. Only downside is no name tag! Layne, what is your climate zone? Needed if you want fine tuning in advice. Re. "I need all the full sun you can give me" type succulent to boot. Too true, even in a sunny 10b zone.

Hi, Sorry I forgot to mention that. So the plant was in a bed medium, and there was too much moisture for it ( it didn't dry out for long time) . I have repotted it with a dryer medium and removed bed roots. Now it's dryer but I'm not sure what's going on in the crown base. The weather here is warm and dry. There is air flow in the orchid area, and I keep it a little moist. There is enough light and my other orchids looks good so I guess they like it here. I guess the rot has started in the store, but I want to know if it can be saved. Thanks

I'm new to orchids too! We had an orchid vendor come in April with hundreds of orchids. So I splurged and bought 6 (2 belong to my mother), even though I've never owned one before and when I brought them to my office someone commented that I got difficult ones to grow that I should have gotten easier ones. I have actually experienced the opposite, they have taken off nicely and all have fantastic growth. I have two Dendrobrium types and 4 Epidendrums, they ended up being beautiful plants. Can't wait till the vendor comes back next year so I can get more! :)
