Your favorite organic gardening websites

We are just starting up a new community garden and have created a website for our members, many of whom we anticipate may not be all that familiar with the concept of organic gardening. It will be an organic garden.

We want to post lots of information about organic gardening, including integrated pest management, companion planting, alternatives to chemical fertilizers and pesticides, waterwise gardening, composting, the benefits of local food, and any other related issue we can think of.

I would really appreciate any suggestions of favorite websites or sources for this type of information. This might also include books that could be borrowed from our public library, online magazines, etc.

Thanks so much for any and all suggestions, and please visit our website and let us know what you think. As with our garden, it's in its infancy, but we will be growing and changing (we hope improving!!) during the coming months, so please come back and visit again.

you are welcome to peruse through our site there may be some ideas there for you, raised gardens are our favourite way of gardening and we grow everything naturally organic.

http://davesgarden.com Dave's Garden costs $20 per year to join, but in my opinion it's worth it. It has forums a lot like these, but they tend to be much more friendly. There are also free portions of the site like Garden Watch Dog (http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/) which lets users rate mail order nurseries. I think Plant Files (http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/) is also free but may limit your searches per day. Plant Files has lots of information and pictures about almost any plant you can think of by regular gardeners. It's nice to get opinions from someone other than the nurseries trying to sell you plants. I also like http://www.hort.uconn.edu/Plants/index.html for information about plants from an unbiased source.

What a wonderful project. Nice website, too. (I also live in a historic neighborhood, in a 1910 house.) My favorite organic gardening website is:

which is part of Rodale's Organic Gardening magazine. Very useful. The members range from brand new to very experienced, and come from all over the country plus Canada.

This is my favorite one. There is more exchange and real discussion here than in any other.

And I'm not sure how the new owners of this site handle this stuff, but when Spike was running the show, he would have canceled this thread on Nov 10. Reason? Because it asks for links away from the sponsors of this website.

Thanks, jcin_los_angeles, for pointing me to that part of Organic Gardening's website. I hadn't known about it, and will make sure to add it to our website.

dchall_san_antonio, gardenweb is my favorite gardening website, too, which is why I came here to ask for gardenweb members' help. I am completely baffled, though, by why you felt the need to add your last paragraph. I've searched what few rules I can find for posting to these forums now and can't find anything at all about this. It may well be that Spike had a rule against this, but didn't he sell out? Maybe ivillage has decided to be more user-friendly. I don't know, but for whatever reason I can't seem to locate the kind of long, involved, complicated rules I, too, remember having seen here years ago. Can you point me to the appropriate rule that I am breaking? I really don't want to be a rules-breaker. Thanks for sharing, though, even though I don't understand your motive. Why not just report this post to the appropriate person if you find it problematic?

I don't have a problem with it. My message was more of a warning. If it disappears unexpectedly, that might be why.

Without linking to anything, you might look in groups.yahoo.com to see if there is anything there that interests you.
