Well it can be important to know which weeds you have so you know which are annuals and which are perennials. First one looks like grass! Second one is Bittercress, an annual (already setting seeds and dying in your picture) Third/fourth: yeah, a dandelion, a perennial with a taproot Fifth:looks like a type of grass Sixth: perhaps deadnettle - Lamium is the scientific name, I think it is an annual, already dying Seven: a grass of some type, perennial Eight, hard to see, but looks like seed heads on a grass Nine - not sure the name, but a weed! Ten - same as seven, I think Eleven - a weedy member of the Ranunclus family, I think Twelve - japanese honeysuckle, a weed and woody vine 13/14: looks like a Rubus family member (probably has tiny prickles) 15: more japanese honeysuckle (red stem and lobed leaves very characteristic) 16: a grass, probably not bad 17: not sure 18: wild garlic/onion; will die down in summer but then come back from little bulbs; multiplies over time to make bigger clumps 19: think that is a maple tree seedling with dandelions 20: a baby oak tree with some weedy geranium under it 21: geranium (weedy)- there are good geraniums, just not that one 22: more maple tree seedling 23: don't know that vine 24: a perennial weed, not sure of the name 25: can't really tell from the picture if that is a grass or what

This is weird...I posted a reply a while back, but it's not here. Oh well... Thanks for the input, gardengal. I'm now switching my thinking to ivy or Asian Jasmine, both of which I've had excellent luck with in the past in terms of filling in a particular area. To do what you're suggesting, i.e., mulch frequently with bark or wood chips, would be quite expensive and time consuming. The entire area is about 4' x 100', although it's only the last 40 or so feet RIGHT NOW that's affected by weeds. But if I'm going to do it, I'd want to do ALL of it! So I think planting ivy/Jasmine and letting it take over would be a better choice.

Your water company will also advise on rain barrels - our local company sells wonderful rain barrels at a very low price. About pavers - the term to use is "permeable surface". Your building department can give you ideas on what materials qualify, and how to calculate your "square foot" needs. Then price your choice of materials, plus installation. Your building code allows so much of a percentage of your property to have "impermeable" covering (slab and driveway/sidewalk) Switching to permeable driveway can actually allow you to add on to your house....

Recently I noticed about a 3ft diameter splotch of a foreign grass or weed in a thin area of my St. Augustine grass. The seed stem looks like bahia, but I'm not sure that it is. Can anyone assist? NW Florida.
