My fish made it...Now need advice

Last week my waterfall froze up and diverted the water out of the pond. Fortunately, I had added an ELL to the inlet which allowed at least 5-6 inches of water to stay. But, there was 5 inches of ice on top of pond so I chopped a hole in the ice to fill back up with water. I put a floating tank heater to melt ice so I could see if there were any survivors. Now the temps are single digits and all my fish are happily swimming around in their nice warm pond instead of being dormant. Do I have to leave the tank heater in there for the rest of winter or can I take it out and let the water temps get back down to where it should be for January with just a bubbler?
