installing preformed pond

We just began installing a 50 gal preformed pond. We dug out the hole, put sand on the bottom and a mixture of sand and dirt on the sides. Still not water in it though. We just had 2 quick big downpours and noticed that the pond rose as though the dirt and sand eroded away. Is there something we did wrong and how can we fix it? Thanks!

I'm not an expert at all, so what I have to say may be wrong. Since there was no water in the pond could it simply be that it is floating on water underneath?

Hi xman, They sell small and dwarf lilies and lotus. I think that would be good. You could also put just about any marginal in there too. (in pots). You'll have to thin them about every year, but that holds true for larger ponds too, when you have things in pots.

Here's a link that might help. Most of the ponds are in-ground, but some of them are preforms, everything from wash-tups to stock tanks to the black Lowes-type preforms. I'm not sure what you want to do. Do you want to dig a second pond next to what you have now, cut away some of the preformed liner to connect them and then glue the EPDM liner to the preformed? That has little chance of working. But if that is your plan, just get an EPDM liner big enough to line your preformed and the new addition.

Something lost in translation here? Lotus are not house plants and if I had an apartment, there wouldn't be a pond inside with lotus in it. That isn't a good idea! Any sane person would do their water gardening in the back seat of their automobile or maybe tried as a vertical outdoor garden, but in an apartment? That's just crazy.
