Hope someone more knowledgable can give you an answer. In all my years of smelling apple blossoms Ive never come across a stinky one. I see your in zone 5, I do know that winter apples will sometimes hang on the tree pretty much most of the winter but they usually would have falling off by now come early spring. It dont make sense how you could have a tree in full bloom while still be loaded with apples. You could be smelling the stench of apples starting to rot. Could you take a picture for us? This sounds so unusual for an apple tree.

I wanted to know if it was of the stinky variety, but didn't want to experience the former punch-in-the-gut odor, so I gave it *half* a sniff, kinda like when you want to know if the milk is off or if the baby needs changing, but don't want to experience Utter Disgust. It smelled nowhere near the nasty-but-beautiful Bradford I once had, but instead had a smell of pretty flowers mixed with old bacon grease. I'd like to think the neighbors were cooking, and my tree simply smells nice, but there were lots of flies on this tree, like my old Bradford, so who knows? The jury's still out on this tree, but I do think prairiepaintbrush is right--the fruiting ones don't stink, or at least don't stink as badly.

Based on previous plants discussed in initiated threads, I am going to assume that Preppystud is located in a warm climate such as southern California. However, many of his/her questions have to do with plant ID or how to grow a number of not-cold-hardy plants and when asked for a location to help with answers, they never respond. IMO, those who are asked repeatedly for clarification to help answer their questions and ignore it maybe should be ignored in return as well. Why should we spend the time and effort when the OP can't be bothered?? It is a matter of common courtesy.

I have excellent google-fu so it took one search to find this. (might not really be much of a demo of my google-fu!) http://burbank.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=181&meta_id=18258 I don't know a lot of the common names but Hymenosporum flavum stood out on that list for me, because it's called "Sweet Shade". This is an Australian plant which is called, in that country, "native frangipani" although it is more closely related to pittosporums. When I saw them in AU they had creamy-yellow flowers, so that is close to creamy-white ;-). I remember them well, it's the plant I reference as "the native plumeria" because at the time I figured, if it was called that, it was actually in Apocyanaceae.
