Name That Plant!

Shrub/bush ID needed

i have this bush/tree/shrub outside and want to know if it is poisonous or edible or something in between. really just what it is. looks like honeysuckle flowers but it gets red berries later in the season(i dont have pics of those) its 6 ft tall or more..woody trunk and larger branches slightly soft smaller stems and leaves...green on both sides(not rusty colored)

Probably Lonicera morrowii or maybe Lonicera tatarica. (Morrow or Tatarian Honeysuckle) They're real weeds in some parts of the country, don't know about NH.

My boss says it grows little red berries also. I know it's not much to go on, but we'd really like to figure this out. thanks for the help.

What colour and shape are the flowers? And does it bloom before, during, or after leaf-out? I agree that some hint about leaf shape would help, As a wild guess so far I'd submit mock orange, or philadelphus... although that blooms in summer I think. There just aren't that many "very" fragrant" shrubs. You might just google "fragrant shrub" and see what you get. The other thing you could do is get a shrub book from the library, and leaf through it - you may recognize it.

thanks all..i thought maybe a viburnum but the pics i found all had blue berries or different flowers.

Looks like Honeysuckle to me, too. I don't believe it's the invasive variety as that has flowers in varying shades of cream and white, not all uniformly white and the clusters are much larger in number of flowers.

There are a number of invasive honeysuckles, not just one type.....and most are considered invasive throughout the east coast. This is definitely a shrubby form, either Lonicera morrowii or L. maackii. Maackii or Amur honysuckle does produce smaller clusters of nearly pure white flowers that can age to a pale yellow.

Tatarian honeysuckle has pink flowers.
