Light reading throughout the day

Hello,

Is there some sort of tool that can be used to check light readings throughout the day without standing there doing it myself? A type of min/max light reading tool?

I also wish there was some sort of photosensitive paper I could place in certain areas to see when full sun is shining there. We have lots of trees in our yard that lead to odd shading at odd times. Also, I am not much of a morning person, so thinking about getting up at 4 AM to check the light isn't appealing...

Any suggestions? How do you check light readings at different times of the day?

Also, I know that I need to slowly get my plants used to the increased light, but how slow are we talking? They are in a South facing window that gets tree shade in the afternoon. It almost seems like under the shade of a tree is less light than they are receiving now, and I don't want to go backwards! Could someone explain the process they use? ie: day 1-3 under tree, day 3-5 etc...

Thank you so much in advance for your thoughts. I have had great success following all your tips and thank you all wholeheartedly.

PS- I am in Oregon if it matters...
