There is a difference between bare normal bulb and bare candelabra bulbs in my opinion. The first is usually encased though can be open if you buy particularly attractive ones, the second is meant to be open. They are shaped specifically to be open on chandeliers and what-not. I would agree with your DH in most cases, but if you use a candelabra bulb as per one of the photos I think it would be fine, and the 40W would likely keep them from being too blinding. Also, just to clarify an above point, you only need to upload to photobucket (or any photo hosting site, as photobucket is aweful in my opinion) if the image doesn't exist on the web. If it is on the web you should be able to right click on it, copy the path and then paste that path into an img tag. Just do (less_than)img src="http://image.com/path"(greater_than)

FWIW (for what it's worth), I think you did a great job with your arrangement -- and I adore those two giraffes munching up there :) even with a grand chandy, lol. I'd just keep the center pic off-center, back in the bushes a bit : ) not smack dab in the middle. As far as the light, it's like they're basking in the Sun :) And if you're enjoying it, too, well, that's why it's up there! I can imagine after trimming and getting an appropriate fixture, for many, it would still need something on the ledge. Esp if it's maybe a foot deep. I'd also imagine it was intended for display or it wouldn't be quite so deep. Anyway, do remember, you are actually in the space. Not only can you see the bigger picture, but you can also see and feel what it needs much better than anyone sitting out here lookin' at some tiny little photo : ) And it's obvious from reading on GW that the people who contribute here vary in their preferences and style widely. Just 'take what you need, and leave the rest' as they say : ) Apply as needed. I don't know why some people need to 'sting' with their comments to make their point, but they do come around here. Grain of salt. And you're so right -- pictures never do justice : ) (Unless, of course, they're selling something :) It does sound like you've figured out what you want to do now, though. It can take the edge of the heat, we have one and we used it a few times this summer. If you are having someone else build the porch for you, adding fans is going to cost very little compared to what you are paying for it anyway. I guess if you are doing it all yourself it will be a larger percentage. But generally you can get a good fan for under $200 and it's relatively quick for an electrician to wire it up.

My take on it? Whatever you prefer. I don't think there's a definitive answer. Factor in that some people like conditions warmer, even more humid than do others. I hate heat and humidity. I understand the hot shower and the feeling cooler when you get out but it is short term thing but if it feels preferable to you, that's the way to go. A cooler shower will bring down the body temp though so when you get out, it'll feel warmer, but again, that's a relatively short term thing too. Since hot water will open the pores at least quicker, conceivably you could get cleaner, perhaps quicker with a hot shower if you've been sweating a lot and doing dirty or dusty work. Often I'll start a shower hot and then cool it down, unless I feel overheated and then I'll use cool water. If my hips or something are hurting, I'll take a hot shower and the heat does relieve pain. I don't subscribe to this ice pack philosophy for pain relief. As I recall your husband isn't out chopping wood and mowing lawns in dusty conditions so a hot shower likely feels much better to him. This isn't a stubbornness issue as some are trying to suggest. It's a matter of preference and personal comfort. After the last few days, for the first time in years I can honestly say I can't wait for fall and winter! Enough of the 95+ð temps & 75+ð dewpoints. That's for places far far south of here. I've always liked having an exhaust fan in the bathroom however if I'm home alone I don't close the bathroom door so it's not as critical for ventilation. Although I'd want a fan in a bathroom I disagree with the urgency of it since bathrooms have been around for a hundred years without fans and the houses aren't falling down because of it. A properly designed bathroom is made for humid conditions. And in the wintertime in furnace country the humidity is not all bad, actually it's good for people and houses since too dry air is very damaging to houses and contents. Also the larger the room, the less impact the shower would have on the room and with it air conditioned the air is dryer and can absorb much more of the humidity. Lindsey, I'll venture a guess your mirrors and windows hardly even fog (if at all) do they?
