List of annuals that rabbits wont eat, and what they do eat
Comments (63)Hello snaylor, " The rabbits come up on the railing of my deck to eat from the rail planters and the other plants (on plant stands!) on my deck. Stargazer lilies chewed to the ground before they are an inch high. Nothing "cute" about bunnies, they are destructive, filthy animals. " Since you have a neighbor, I assume you live in town and an air rifle is not a good idea for controlling the rabbits. A slingshot would probably be legal, but would take some practice. Assuming your deck is in your backyard, fencing the rabbits out of your backyard is probably the best idea. A chicken-wire fence about 3 or 4 feet high might work, provided that your codes permit that. If you have an existing fence, the chicken-wire would just serve to make it rabbit proof. Nothing will keep squirrels out, but as you already know, they can be trapped. Fortunately for me, rabbits don't damage my zinnias. We have several native plants in our rural area that they prefer. Comments (5)"The plants look perfect except for the peas being eaten from the pod, with some shriveling." Do you mean that the pods have been opened, and the seeds removed? Was the pod chewed open? Voles are a frequent culprit here, they will harvest the seeds of legumes as they begin to ripen. For the most part, they prefer to harvest seeds close to the ground, often pulling plants down; but they can climb as well. Last year they climbed the trellis to harvest seeds from my yardlongs... they must have been hanging from the pods as they did so. I put a few rat traps out, which put an end to their pilfering....See MoreGross black and white slimy caterpiller eating my lime tree!!!
Comments (4)I should mention that you found the most effective method of controlling them....other than the fact that if you examined your plants closely earlier on, you would have seen the baby caterpillars (which don't look like bird poop yet) before they start to do so much damage. You might even find the solitary eggs on the upper surface of the leaves. Remove them as you find them. Or let some grow just because they are so utterly neat....See MoreWhat Do You Eat That Might Odd to Others?
Comments (99)It is referred to in our home as "peanie bunkle", and I am under orders from my husband to hide it from him and mete it out in reasonable portions as an occasional treat because if he sees the jar, he will eat it...all of it. It is the only reward that will convince Emily M.Scampercat to forget her umbrage at having her nails clipped...peanie bunkle distracts her from any irritation. As for radish sandwiches, I like them open faced,on a slice of good, crusty french bread, thickly sliced and thickly slathered with butter...sprinkled with salt&pepper. If there is a glass of wine and some strawberries or grapes in the picture, so much the better. Oooh, luxury though is the same meal, but with the bread spread with soft, aged brie instead of butter. Mmmmmm....See Morevstech
