judy, maybe nothing is wrong. Inattention doesn't signify anything. People are busy, caught up in their own concerns.

I rarely visit the gallery myself.

I agree with mehitabel. It's "summertime and the living is easy; fish are jumpinn' ...." etc.

I almost never go over to the gallery either.

Judy, congrats on your rebloom! Getting one to be happy enough to rebloom is a sign that it loves its home. Sorry I missed your pics - after you mentioned they were in the gallery, I did go looking for them, but couldn't find them amidst the sea of other photos - are they near the top of bottom of the page? As the others have already stated, I too rarely ever visit the orchid gallery. Usually I've noticed people just embed them into a forum post and put the word "pictures" or something into the subject line.

I remember to "visit" the Gallery about once every month or two...........

Ditto for me. Personally I don't post in the gallery because of the terms of service and rarely visit.

Congratulations on your rebloom. That is the first, greatest milestone in orchid growing.

I don't do the gallery either for many of the reasons mentioned above. My visits there are along the line with stitz, if that. Congrats on your blooms!

Assuming I was in the right place, I couldn't locate your photos or find many comments on anyone else's either. Most had no comments and some had one. If you want reaction, I would bypass the Gallery.

If everyone bypassed the gallery this discussions page would be cluttered up with " you beaut photos".
Just click on orchid gallery at the top of the discussions page. There are some wonderful orchid photos over there.

Also, people will often look at the photos but not make a comment. Even if there are no comments - and I saw 3 on yours - it doesn't mean that they weren't looked at. Don't take it personally.

You're right, Arthurm. I was looking at the Orchid section of the Photo Galleries, which is quite different. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Don't take it personally. I look at the photo gallery about once or twice a week or so. However, I tend not to post follow-ups unless I actually have questions or comments about the plant pictured. As I don't grow ~95% of the genera posted I rarely have burning questions about the plants. That doesn't mean that I don't look at and appreciate the pictures.

I didn't check the Gallery this weekend. I feel horrible because I post there and do love looking (drooling) over the flowers. I check the Gallery about once a week.

I think photos for display should only be posted in the Gallery. Posing here would take over the forums. Photos here are for information or problems. You did the right thing, I just think everyone was probably busy over the weekend.

Your photos are beautiful as are the flowers. Congratulations on the rebloom. That is always a feat to accomplish and you did it.

The gallery seems to be a place where limited viewing occurs, very few comments and seldom any questions. When a question is posed, it is disheartening to take the time to answer it and then never hear back from the person that posed the question.

I have seen gorgeous, unusual orchids exhibited there where if they had been posted on the discussion side, there might actually be ......a discussion. The forums where most pictures are posted on the discussion side are very active forums with many people adding to their collection. To me, enabling people to expand their collection is one of the main purposes of a forum.

It can get discouraging to newer growers to only see the please help me discussions. It propels the myth that orchids are fragile and hard to grow when we all know that if you can provide a semi-correct environment, they can be one of the most rewarding plants to grow.

IVillage does not care where you post pictures, nor did Spike, so post wherever you prefer. I will enjoy whatever you choose, I just seldom comment in the gallery and only open the ones I have never seen in bloom.

I agree with you Brooke. There have been more that a few times that beautiful pictures, (posted to "discussions") have started interesting conversations, and I have gone *that day* and bought that orchid.

Thanks to all of you for your encouraging remarks. I'm sorry for being so over-sensitive, and the last thing I wanted to do was make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Like Arthur and Jane, I was under the impression that photos were meant to be posted in the gallery and topics for discussion (or cries for help lol) were meant for the forum. Thanks, Brooke, for straightening me out on this. (Incidentally, I ALWAYS acknowledge answers to my questions.) And Brooke and Pat, you are correct about the "enabling" thing. I know that without the forum, I'd still be nursing my one and only 'chid and mulling over that strange new word (phal-aen-op-sis) instead of steadily expanding my collection. I'm loving every minute of my new-found hobby. Thanks a million!
