The Garden Party

I haven't a clue... Help!!!

Really, I am sort of out of touch with what's going on in the Young People's world. I don't quite know what to do. We (meaning spouse and I both) have been invited to an Engagement Celebration.

Now is this like a shower, with gifts? Or is it just a get-to-know-you party? He's one of our step grandkids. We had planned to give money as a wedding gift, but I don't want to spend a dime (cautious me) until I am sure they will make it to the altar.

So, what is an Engagement Celebration?

Dunno............I haven't crawled out from under the rock lately. Sounds like a good enough reason to celebrate, however. My g'kids aren't at the almost/planning to be/ or pretending like we are married stage yet, so I haven't run into it and I am not asking them and putting any ideas in their heads, either. LOL.

It's just like the parties people have always had when they announce their engagement. It's supposed to be somewhat intimate, with only family and close friends who will be coming to the wedding. An informal chance for everyone to get together and celebrate. No gifts is the usual. I checked google to make sure it was still what I thought it was..lol.

Yup, a cement mixer! I used mine to tumble glass like sugarmaple mentioned. It turned out very nice! I saw a yard pic not long ago where they had a lawn chair sitting on a bed of broken pttery (in place of sand or pea gravel or bark). All the pieces had rounded edges so it wasn't sharp to walk on. It looked so pretty with all the colors. I imagined if I did something like that I'd run the pieces around in my cement mixer with some sand...yours is a treasure! If it is fixable, I'd use it to mix up hypertufa or concrete as suggsted, but if it can't be fixed, I'd paint it a great color (I'm into color right now), fill it with soil and plant it up bigtime! Would make a very unique planter!

For future reference, putting soil on top of a smother defeats the purpose. Also, the newspaper or cardboard needs to remain undisturbed until anything under it is dead. Otherwise, the unwanted plants will come up through the holes you made to add new plants. Many seeds are blown around in the air, and critters move them around in various ways. There will always be unwanted sprouts in any garden situation.

I would put all of the smaller plants together in groups of 3-5, staggering them in height if possible. They look lost scattered about. Also I see a couple of chairs hidden by the trees. Can you make another seating area and include the oddly placed table (by the rug) along with them? The seating and table on the rug should all be pulled forward (placing them all on the rug) facing each other to make it easier to converse with one another. You could then possibly group the plants around the rug or in other areas to your liking. I think it’s a beautiful atrium that just needs a little tweaking! eta: if replacing furniture I would not go with leather for reasons you stated. What about the resin wicker? They have different colors to choose from and it’s very durable. I think wicker is perfect for an atrium!
