I think this is a weed but not sure! We planted new things last year and trying to remember! Help!

also compare with butterfly weed ... which is a very confusing common name for the plant at the link ...

down here in adrian MI ... mine looks at the same growth phase as yours.. but i am not a botanist ... so i could be wildly wrong ...

the butterfly WEED is an exceptional plant that is not a weed ...

Thanks a lot, that's very helpful! I guess you wouldn't usually plant this on purpose, it must just be some wild thing that is taking advantage of some space where I pulled up some other very invasive ground cover and haven't really replanted with anything other than a few annuals that don't do very well... But they are not unsightly, I guess I'll leave them be for now and remove them once I have an idea what to do with the area.

I see both vile Queen Anne's Lace and another (the blue) that I can't remember the name of just now. It's a European native and it's naturalized in many places in the US. It's perennial, and it may or may not be a weed, depending on if you want it or not.

They look like they will bloom soon, and the first photo shows that the flowers will be spikes, so I don't think either of the previous suggestions are correct. There are a number of plants with this leaf shape, including a large coreopsis, which it also isn't. I'd ask on the Name that Plant forum since there are some real experts at plant ID. If you give a general location that will help as well.

It looks like a Silene; S. latifolia ssp. alba, perhaps.
