Great topic for a poem, and so well covered. I'm a foodie, no question about it. Nutrition is an important component of food. But that is just the start. Then there is the emotional part of food. IMO, that's also important. "Food at celebrations Getting together Warms the heart " A story. DS (age 52) moved from CA to OR a few months ago and he is busy setting up a new life. It's been stressful at times. DH and I sent him a "package from home" that included his favorite cookies, chocolate chips and nut cookies, yes with white and brown sugar and white flour (bad for you stuff) and DH air popped pop corn. Our favorite for football day. DS loved it all and he was so happy with his package from home. My favorite of food for thought here at the GP is Don. He feeds my brain cells. Good going, lilo.

A2zmom -- I love that combo! How tall are your May Night Salvia? I thought they were short like my Salvia Marcus, but a friend of mine has them and they are probably over 2 feet. I recently added Salvia Caradonna (very dark) to my yarrow 'Moonshine'. It will probably be next year before I get the full show like your combo! Cameron

Rachel, The Purple Martin is like a God Among birds bigtime smile..They are as American as baseball and your grandma's apple pie. They are the true harbinger of spring and once you hear that voice overhead or see that black jet form knife across the sky you know winter is dead for good. I had 124 pairs last year here that fledged nearly 500 babies. They cannot all return to nest here and I hope they find other caring folks that put up a proper martin house or gourds equipped with starling resistent entrances and start new colonies. There is no comparison between a beautiful springtime blue\black martin and a starling Rachel..The martin puts them to shame. One martin perched amidst a bunch of McDonald's parking lot,french fry eatin' starlings would look like a flowering daisy in a field of cockleburrs big grin..Love them so much. Glad you liked my poem Rachel. I see you live in Ky. Well if you are ever over towards Owensboro you would be welcome to come and watch the martins here on a warm summer evening or morning. They are a treat. By eliminating the invasive species anyone can have a nice colony of them in no time if they put up the proper house and\or gourds...Mike

I like to teach my young grandsons tongue twisters that I learned as a child. Part of the challenge is to speed up the delivery of the phrase-- 1) A big black bug bit a big black bear, and the big black bear bled blood. 2) Theophilous Thistle thrust three thousand thistles into the thick of his thumb. 3) Rubber baby buggy bumpers. No, I am not teaching them to hold their tongues and say, "I was born on a pirate ship" even though the oldest does love pirates.
