Black Spots on underside of leaves

I have an epi that has black spots under several leaves. They can't be seen from the top of the leaves at all. What can this be?

Hey Claire,

This happened to one of my catt hybrid types...if it's what I have, the spots spread slowly, and eventually penetrate the leaf. I sprayed with H2O2 to no avail. Eventually resorted to phyton27 and the spots stopped and dried up. I suspect fungus but who knows. If you can spare it, and from the photo it seems it is only affecting part of the leaf, chop the part with the spots off and dust the cut with cinnamon.

Thanks Cal, I thought it was some sort of fungus but I wanted a second opinion. It's on at least 6 leaves but all at or near the tips so I can cut them off clean. It won't be a pretty plant but hopefully it will be a healthier one.

I urge you to contact your extension office for help on this. Do you know where your county office is? I'd suggest that you call the office and ask if you can email your images directly to the university diagnostic clinic. With Extension budgets slashed over the years, you never know who might be on call to answer questions. I suspect that these are calcium oxalate crystals, reported in literature for peppers.

Can anyone suggest how to treat this entity, it does not scrape off like the black soot on the mango leaves. The shrub is jujube. I have already sprayed with soap and oil Thanks in advance.

Hard to say w/o photos but you are not the only one that doesn't care for the UI on this forum. I think it is a mite infestation. Neem has typically worked for me when applied to top/bottom leaf surfaces but there may be some other environmental or application issues which are not working in your favor. Can you look for a systemic such as Bayer 3 in 1 and try that? You may have to apply consecutively for several weeks. K.
