Pretty little bell-shaped flowers

These cute little bluish-purple flowers (some kind of bulb) come up every spring and I have no idea what they're called.

It's likely Hyacinthoides hispanica.

I haven't forgotten the great help you all gave me, or my promise to keep you updated as it progresses. As it turned out, it hasn't progressed. DW and I couldn't quite come to an agreement on this flower bed, but we did on a location on the other side of our driveway. It is an easier layout to work with, and I was able to come up with a pretty decent shape for it (because I had learned from you!) and started work on it Friday. I started a new thread so that anyone interested won't have to wade through this one to get to the new stuff. Thanks again to all of you for your expertise. TM

simple common name... blue bells... hmmm..... couldn't be morning glory or trumpet vine, could it? ..... or maybe, if it's not a vine..foxglove?... could u please provide a bit more info???? all the best, dory

Could it be a stray Gelsemium sempervirens, rather straggly from poor living? The buds on your other post about yellow buds also look a lot like G sempervirens.

nonmember_gw, you are AWESOME!!! That's it! Like floral_uk, I couldn't pin down much of anything - I had actually noticed some resemblance to Lily of the Valley, but that was all I got on that front. So, Salpichroa organifolia or 'Lily of the Valley Vine' it is. The hybrid H. x massartiana appears to be more likely in gardens. Many here do not like them, as they are prolific and resist easy eradication. The easiest thing would be to just plant things that combine with them attractively, such as spring-flowering shrubs with pink flowers and so on.

Thanks all for the IDs! I've learned a lot about plants (but not enough, of course) over the past 6 years, because the previous owner of our house was a big gardener / plant lover. These little flowers came with the house. I haven't found them to be invasive at all. I've actually moved some of the bulbs to various places around the yard and they seem to just stay put where I move them. That contrasts dramatically with some of the other stuff that came with the house, that I am growing to hate - such as lily of the valley and black-eyed-susan. In any case I REALLY appreciate the feedback of the experts on this forum - you all are so knowledgeable and experienced, it's wonderful! I hope these are an OK plant to have because I love them. :)
