McHudd,,Lamb's Ears are hardy in our zone...the problem is, once you plant a section, man oh man do they take over..lol. I've never tried growing one as a house plant, but since you have it why not give it a try? Don't you just love how soft it feels. I don't know if it'd hang though..lambs ears grow semi-tall, (not huge) but tall, especially when theyre in flower. If you can keep cooler in winter, and give as much sun as possible, they just might make it. I don't know if they have to go through dormancy or not. What type of pot would you plant them in? Toni

first off.. you can do a lot of damage being out too early ... especially if you are walking in your beds.. making concrete out of your soil ... second.. if you have more than one.. experiment.. you are more likely to remember... if you try different methods.. third.. get down there.. and look to see if there are buds down low.. if so ... off with their heads ... all the power to the buds ... if you dont see them.. and your research already said to do it.. perhaps you are out too early ... but it wont matter.. just do it ... and really.. the name of the plant doesnt matter ... just about everything goes low in early spring .... I've seen leaves of lambs ears glued to pots/small boxes, etc - very nice looking. I'm pretty sure they were glued on while pliable, and not dried. Lambs ears (Stachys) is a perennial and dislikes wet conditions. With a large plant such as yours you might notice the center dies out, but they're very easy to dig up, break apart and transplant healthy sections. They look kinda ratty in spring - I take a leaf rake to mine, quite ferociously, to get rid of any dead stuff and they come back just fine.

Not a plant from hell at all. They are biennials - only lives 2 years. By its size, it is in its second year. You will see a flower spike this year. It is quite pretty in bloom - a tall spike of small yellow flowers. Mullein generally lives only in sunny disturbed locations and often in places of poor soil. Young plants are extremely easy to pull or mow. Mullein is also sensitive to being disturbed and dug up so it is not difficult at all to rid yourself of it. Yes, they are not native and are a naturalized plant but I would not call them invasive. And actually, mullein is a medicinal herb used for all manner of lung complaints. FataMorgana
