Ready to go Organic in lower NY...

Hi all,

I live in lower NY and am finally ready to go organic. I have followed Scott's 4 step program the last 3 years and have been extremely unhappy with the results. Terrible and it has been getting worst. I feel the more I try to take care of the lawn the more weeds and brown there is.

There is now an abundance of crabgrass through the lawn that is very healthy and a good deal of the real grass is quite brown. I have a mantis that we started using last year (aerating and de-thatching) as well. We do this in the Spring and Fall.

Anyway's, all the old methods have to go. To start new, what do I need? I realize corn gluten is a good start. Assuming I find this, is applying in April and September sufficient? I worry though that this would prohibit grass seed from coming up. Is this true. What overall program should I follow and what other applications do I need? We have fescue, bluegrass mix.

Thank you very much for the help!
