Slug control

So, I couldn't figure out why my cucumbers weren't germinating even though everything else was going well. Two days ago the first one (that I saw) broke the soil. This morning I went out and it was gone. I just mulched yesterday, and there was a glistening slug trail leading to and from the spot where the cotyledons had been.

My question is how to prevent this from happening again. I salt the slugs that I see, and none of my other veggies have been touched, but so far (apparently) the slugs have claimed 4 cucumbers. The one that I actually saw was a re-seed. I have since started a new batch of seeds, this time in trays to transplant when they are bigger. Hopefully I can still get a decent harvest.

Is there a more attractive "lure" that I can use to keep the slugs off of my cukes?
