Habeneria radiata, double checking culture

Last year, I was too cautious w/ the Hab radiata, and the corms never developed. Four more corms arrived today from von BourgondienâÂÂs bulb and perennial company. They donâÂÂt ship to my zip code till the last week of April.

Here are culture notes based on about 15 sources - several from folks here. Do these steps sound about right? Steps #5 and #10 have a question.

1. For 4 corms, use about a 3â plastic pot.

2. Medium: 1/2 peat moss, 1/2 perlite OR

3. African Violet mix, which is slightly acidic & contains peat.

4. Plant corms about 1â deep.

?? 5. Plant sprout down? Sprout up?

6. For the 1st watering, submerge pot in water, then keep medium damp till the shoots emerge.

7. After that, keep medium moist till the pot goes outside.

8. Inside, give as much light as possible.

9. Fertilize with orchid fertilizer 1 x week; flush regularly.

?? 10. In the spring, keep the pot inside till the outside day temps are in the 70s.

  1. Once outside, put pot in saucer of water a la Phrags and keep medium wet till leaves begin wilting in the fall, OR

  2. Put lava rock, small stones, or sphag on top to keep medium from drying out too fast; donâÂÂt sit in water.

  3. Acclimate to almost full sun outside.

Thanks! Whitecat8
