I grows like a weed and blooms reliably and easily. I have ten of them I got just the way you did, salvage after they were used in a display. Not really rescue orchids.

I agree, a wonderful orchid. No culture tips because i haven't got one. But i suspect that it is easy. Does anyone know how to pronounce Degarmo?

I hope you have better luck than me, or maybe I need the culture tips. Mine does grow like a weed - a nasty huge, won't even consider blooming weed. A healthy, patience-sucking, giant behemoth that laughs at me when I suggest blooming.

Mine was in bloom for ~5 months when I got it 2 years ago, but it hasnt decided to bloom yet. It has grown like a weed, this year I decided to stop babying it and let it receive cooler temps, but I haven't seen any spikes.

Interesting... both posters who report 'weedlike' growth and development are greenhouse growers and both growers who report growth but no blooms are not. That has always been the touchstone of my indoor growing efforts - simulate as closely as possible within the (present) limits of budget, a well managed greenhouse.

The bloom is quite pretty, it looks kind of like a white fairy.
Who needs a green house, my whole house is turning into a green house. Just kidding. My family laughs that they keep waiting to see a monkey jump out from behind some plants. The scary thing is I would love to have a monkey.

When I said it was easy that is because it is often seen benched at OS meetings around here by humble novice growers who mostly only a shade house at best. Probably needs seasons and lots of Howard's favourite stuff.

How do you say Degarmo? this is important, especially after you add the Ara.
Is it Dee Garmo or Deg Armo.?

I find that mine needs not quite as much light as a catt, lots of water, and a very tight pot. Other than that, the plant thrives without me.

No one going to tell me? If people cannot pronounce Cattleya. You can imagine what tongue twisters come up when faced with Degarmoara or even Burrageara which is just Burrage - ara.

"plant thrives without me" exactly, but when grown well, with 3 or 4 large flowers, this is a lovely orchid.

I am sorry, I have no idea how to pronounce it.

Mine got sold because it was huge, but it bloomed a lot and was lovely. The fragrance was one of my favorites.

Culture: 3 "rows" back from a big, E/SE window and right next to the T8s but too tall to go under them except for a few leaves. It was one of the few plants that did well for me in S/H and probably would have gone nuts in just about anything. It got very crowded in the pot, and I didn't repot it during the 3 years it was here.

Temps high 50s to mid-80s and even into the high 90s outside during that hot, hot summer. Humidity mid-20s to mid-60s - higher outside in the summer. Often, it was underwatered, meaning there was no water in the bottom of the S/H pot for several days at a time.

I was just rereading the replies here to make sure I am on the right path with him, and I felt rude for not thanking for the help. I had cut myself off from oncidiums and oncidium-like orchids a few years back and now, again I have a few. I think that I was underestimating just how much water they want.
This one sounds like a nice fit with me, and so far so good. Already I can tell they are a tougher plant.
