Perhaps a life long experiment for some?

The years have brought many interesting individuals into my life. One was an elderly hermit-type gentleman who lived off the land on his rather extensive acreage. His depth of knowledge and curiosity about the natural world was always of great interest. He would pitch in and help with my current projects and together we developed numerous ideas related to horticulture.

It was years ago that he mentioned that a planting of peppermint had escaped from his garden and he was going to let it "have it's way" and grow into the tangle of poison ivy which covered non-cultivated areas of the property.

About five years later he observed that the poison ivy had disappeared in that area where the peppermint was spreading
while it remained rampant and lush everywhere else on the property.

Hmmm...I have since wondered. Could there be an allelopathic relationship between the mints and poison ivy? Those with the untamed land and poison ivy might want to experiment.
