First of all, congrats on all of the new leads! Clearly you wintered it very well! So what is it?

In answer to your question, you should not have to cut them all off, and if you want to (if you decide to share some of them) I wouldn't recommend that you cut them off until they are viable to live on their own, which means that the roots should be at least 2 in long. If you decide to leave them all there, the roots should just keep growing until they reach the media. You may wish to repot it a little deeper in media if all of the hanging roots bother you. The one at the base will be growing taller, and can be buried a little without problems.

I have seen this on some of mine, and just try to do the best I can for them as I described above. And even so, once they get sizable, you can still cut them off the parent pb.

john: I wouldn't cut them off until they were going to die if I didn't cut them off...momma plant provides so much to the new plants that you should try to keep them on for as long as possible---what you might do is try to get the new roots into some SpMoss as creatively as you can so the new roots get well established while still attached to momma----good luck to you

That sure is a happy plant!! My Ctsm tenebrosum likes to do that, although I have no idea what makes them do this. I agree with Mark about possibly wrapping sphag around or under the roots of that highest keiki once the roots have some more size. They'll be fine as is for a while. And then, IMO, those others are so close to the bottom, that I would just pot the plant until about midway of that large yellow circle that you have directly above. The lower plants will grow up out of the media, and the higher plant roots will grow down.

Wow, whatever you did, do it again next year! And then trade some to your favorite ctsm pals ;)

But they're all young enough to just let them go for now.

And don't worry if the parent pbs get sucked dry as the babies grow - there are a lot of plantlets and they may take a toll on the parent pbs.

Thanks Carolyn. As for what I did, I got lucky I think, or unlucky :-) Seriously, I stopped watering in the fall, and only gave it some water like 1.5 times a month, but the leaves never fully died back. I finally moved it at the beginning of January to another spot and oddly it lost its leaves while growing a new pb at the same time (that pb eventually dried up and died). So I just let the thing sit and it seemed to truly go dormant for a while, and now in the past few weeks all of these have popped up. So, like I said, there was no method to my madness. It is funny though, there are literally like 10 nubs growing on this thing. Oh, and I'll be happy to trade in the fall after the thing flowers and/or if it just gets too unruly before that!
